URGENT! National Strike! Over 140 Vessels Delayed! Port Operations Interrupted! Logistics Delay Warning!
Release time:10.17.2025

Recently, a wave of strikes has been disrupting operations at major European ports, including Antwerp, Zeebrugge, and Rotterdam, virtually paralyzing freight transport in Europe. Dockworkers, pilots, and ground staff are striking over disputes concerning wages and pensions, which is likely to have a further impact on European supply chains.

In the latest news, a 48-hour national strike is scheduled to take place in Belgium on October 14th, which is expected to severely disrupt public transport, port, and airport operations.

This strike action is organized by several local trade unions in protest of reform proposals put forward by the federal government. Furthermore, the strike by port pilots, which began on October 5th, is ongoing, leading to further interruptions at the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge.

According to an update on the Port of Antwerp-Bruges official website on October 14th: Due to the strike action in Antwerp, maritime traffic for sea-going and inland vessels has been suspended until October 15th, 07:30. Tugboat services at the Port of Antwerp are operating at 50% capacity.

A large number of vessels are experiencing delays with regard to port entry and exit traffic. Regarding congestion, there are currently 83 inbound and 49 outbound vessels registered at the Port of Antwerp. Maritime traffic at the Port of Zeebrugge is currently possible; however, pilotage services remain suspended until October 15th, 09:30. In terms of congestion, there are currently 7 inbound and 4 outbound vessels registered.

The strike action is expected to severely disrupt shipping at Antwerp and Zeebrugge, and cause significant delays in vessel arrivals and departures over the next few days.

Additionally, the latest update from the Port of Rotterdam announced that the strike by lashing companies has been temporarily suspended, effective from 7:00 AM on Monday, October 13th, local time.

The decision to suspend the strike was initiated by a court order issued this weekend. However, if no progress is made in negotiations by Friday, October 17th, workers will be allowed to strike again next weekend.
